I suppose I need to cut-tag all this. ( stuff about Tim Gunn's Guide To Style, Top Chef, Bionic Woman & Criminal Minds behind the cut. )

I can see Monday nights are gonna be spent on the couch watching NBC. Out of the three shows I watched last night, Chuck, Heroes, and Journeyman, I liked all three. ( brief thoughts behind the cut. )

Why have none of you people mentioned to me that Callum is going to be in Tin Man????
I keep seeing ads for it on SciFi and it looks sort of interesting and I was wondering if that guy who looked like Alan Cumming really was Alan Cumming (it is) so I looked it up on the IMDB and there was Callum Keith Rennie in the credits.
This is definitely going on my 'must watch' list now. (And I will try not to have high expectations. It is a SciFi Channel product after all.)

So there I was watching Top Chef last night (not sorry to see THAT contestant go!) and see a commercial saying that there's going to be a special sneak preview of Tim Gunn's Guide to Style on afterward. I figured it'd be 5 minutes, but it was actually an entire episode!
( Can you have spoilers for a makeover show? Well, just in case... )
I'm definitely going to watch the ep tonight, too. Not just because they're introducing this season's Project Runway designers, either. :)

So I'm watching Kyle XY last night an nearly spewed gin-and-tonic (hey, it was a rough day at work!) out my nose when one of the characters exclaims in a moment of aggravation: "Oh, for the love of Peter Petrelli!" Now, I am pretty sure that The Family Channel which runs Kyle XY is owned by ABC not NBC so I was a little surprised by that, but I'll take my Heroes shout-outs where I can. And they did give ABC a nod with a Lost reference a few minute later. ;D
Speaking of Kyle XY, I have to say that Jean-Luc Bilodeau, the actor who plays Josh on that show, is really quite good. I think he's arguably the best, most natural actor on the show.
And in a total non-sequitur I do sometimes wonder about that "Family" designation, considering how much sex there is in pretty much every show I've seen on that network. Not that I'm objecting. Given a choice between sex and violence on a 'family' network I'll opt for sex. Far healthier.

Okay my fellow (few) IRT fans, just how cool was that scene with TJ feeding the Raven flying alongside his truck?
I have to admit, I think TJ was my favorite of all the guys, with Jay running a close second. Hugh's kind of a charismatic asshole (is it something about that name?), but Alex seemed like a nice guy.
I started watching IRT because of my longstanding infatuation with things Canadian (brought on, no doubt by my equal infatuation with due South) and this show was kind of enlightening in a lot of ways. Not the least of which is that... those guys are crazy.
Oh, and speaking of due South,
truepenny has discovered the wonders thereof.

The more I watch Eureka the more I like it. I love the ensemble cast, the pacing is almost always spot-on, the dialogue snappy. It's just a really fun show. They even make me like characters that would normally just annoy me, like the supercilious Nathan and the gormless Fargo. This week's ep, Noche de SueƱos was a hoot! ( more behind the cut )
On another note, what is it with the name Jack, anyway? I mean... Jack Sparrow, Jack Harkness, Jack Carter, Jack Bauer, Jack Aubrey-- I am sure I am forgetting other fan-favorite Jacks. ETA: Jack O'Neill! How could I forget him?

So the list of Emmy nominations is out, and there were a few I was pleased to see. For instance:
Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series
Masi Oka (Yatta!) for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series
Heroes and House were both nominated for Outstanding Drama Series
Deadliest Catch was nominated for Outstanding Nonfiction Series
Project Runway and Top Chef were both nominated for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program
Eureka, Heroes, and Rome were all nominated for Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series
Also, Deadliest Catch, Project Runway, Rome, The Lost Room were all nominated for several technical awards as well.
I was not so thrilled to see David Morse (as Michael Tritter on House) nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series. Though I suppose it's a credit to his acting that I found his character to be so spectacularly annoying that I hated that arc with a passion beyond expression.

How are they going to get out of that??? Yikes!
Did anyone else notice that John Barrowman has been in the title credits, not the guest-star credits, for the last two eps?
(Spoilers possible in the comments... if anyone comments, that is. xD )
Peripherally related, how did I not know that
gorgidas (aka Theban Band) has done some Dr. Who and Torchwood pieces? Also, this Captains Jack is rather amusing. At least two of those three would get along... er... swimmingly. ;D

Probable spoilers below (I never know what someone else is gonna consider a spoiler so better safe than sorry.)
( Dr. Who 'Utopia' )
( The 4400 season premiere )
( The Dead Zone season premiere )
( The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer )
I forgot to record this week's "The Next Food Network Star" (it aired opposite The 4400) but fortunately they re-run it 80 times during the week so I won't have much trouble catching up with it. (Yeah, Top Chef is much better than TNFNS but I still want to watch it.)

Probably no one here remembers this show, but I just saw on TVShowsOnDVD that The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles are finally going to make it to DVD sometime around Christmas this year. The extras look amazing, too! I'm really looking forward to seeing these again. They were beautifully done. A former history professor at my university said that the Battle of the Somme sequence was the best he'd ever seen and he even used it in class when teaching WWI.

Now that all the answers to yesterday's meme have been guessed, I'm posting the answers here ( behind a cut. )
I've seen this several places but most recently in
brynwulf's journal, and decided to play. Some of these are easy, some, hopefully, aren't. ;D
Go to IMDB.com and look up 10 of your favorite TV shows. Post three official IMDB "Plot Keywords" for these 10 picks. Have your friends guess the show names.

3. Duo / 1960s / Spy
4. Culture Clash / Secret Society / Underworld
5. Military / Alien / Alien Invasion

Dang it, NCIS. Just when I'm about fed up with you, you have to go and throw me a bone. ( Read more... )
Oh, Mohinder, you're so pretty and so gullible. *sigh* ( cut for spoilers )
In other news, apparently I did not pay as much attention in HS as
bethbethbeth did, but I did pay enough attention to get the same phrasing on my results. :)
I wish the test showed where you scored low, because I'd be willing to bet it was math. :)

You paid attention during 91% of high school!
85-100% You must be an autodidact, because American high schools don't get scores that high! Good show, old chap!

I guess this could be construed as a spoiler for tonight's episode of Bones, so just in case I am putting it behind a cut, though it's an extremely minor spoiler (imho) and really just mostly a gripe.( Read more... )
They were only off a little bit. Like... most of a continent, several hundred pounds, and and entire species.

It's frelling snowing. Again. This makes 8 storms in 7 weeks. I begin to understand why people go crazy in the winter.
I WANT MY NICE TEMPERATE COLORADO WINTER WEATHER BACK!
::koff:: Sorry. I know other people have it much worse, so I should not capslock.
Let's see, what else can I ramble on about? House and Bones both disappointed me this week. The performances in House were amazing but the script was written by a monkey on crack, and I am also tired of the two-by-four approach. Bones had me yelling "They wouldn't DO that!" at the TV several times. Has anyone else noticed the fact that the forensic 'experts' on Bones are always handling evidence without gloves? Don't they watch CSI for heaven's sake?
The Top Chef finale was interesting, and though I was not at all surprised by who won, I was a little surprised by how close it was. ( more rambling behind the cut. )
Also-- Bostonians? You were afraid of this? Seriously???

My Indian feast turned out exceedingly well, especially for a first attempt. I need more practice making naan though, I didn't manage to get it thin enough, plus I burned one piece. Still, I was very happy. Even the kidunit loved the chicken korma, which I wasn't expecting since the term 'picky eater' is an understatement. (Okay, so the aloo gobi went untasted on that front, but hey, I'll take every little victory I can. )
Also, I really enjoyed The Dresden Files. I thought the actor they cast for Harry was perfect, and even though Bob is a little more... robust than in the books, it was well done and I understand why they did it that way. Hopefully they will keep up the quality in future episodes. (And my due South fan soul thinks it is very amusing that there's a Dead Bob in this show, too.) Altogether it was a really great day, despite the snow.
In case anyone's interested, I'm putting the recipes for Chicken Korma, Aloo Gobi, and Cherry Naan ( behind the cut )

I realized I haven't updated in a while... mostly because I am the most boring person ever. I think I must be on a British kick. I've been reading a lot of PD James and have started the "Top Ten Ways To Tell If You're Reading a PD James Novel" list:
1) The main character's mother died when s/he was born or very young leaving them emotionally repressed.
2) Everyone can tell you at the drop of a hat if a building is Norman, Regency, Victorian, or Edwardian. And does. Regularly. At length. Often including the name of the architect.
3) At least once in each book someone experiences a moment of heightened senses which reads very much like an acid trip.
4) There is one character per book (not the same one) who owns the complete set of "Famous British Trials" books.
5) The butler didn't do it.
6) The main character often reflects broodingly on their relatively un-traumatic but motherless childhood.
Now I just need to come up with the last four. :)
TVwise I've been watching a lot of BritTV: Dr. Who (9 & 10), Life on Mars (loved it but don't find it slashy), Touching Evil (season 1)(ditto), and A Wire in the Blood (season 1)(ditto, in fact the het UST is practially incandescent). I love Robson Green. He really likes them 'gritty crime dramas' don't he? ;-D In addition to British TV, I watched some Canadian TV... the second season of ReGenesis, which continues to be completely awesome. OMG, that last ep! I hope to hell they get another season to explain what happened. And I have the second season of Slings and Arrows to watch when I have time.
Other than that, I've been helping the kidunit with some cosplay stuff, and going about the mundanities of life. And still not writing, other than a little MFU comment-fic snippet I did the other day for a friend. I need to remember to post that here.
I saw an interesting quiz on
