A friend of mine sent me a link to this, and I think all my Due South fen friends will appreciate it. ;D

I'm surprised that I haven't seen anyone on my reading list mention being amused by theme of the BC tourism ad-campaign being run during the Olympics. "Super, Natural British Columbia." Cracks me up every time I see it. I wonder if the cast and crew of Supernatural do, too?

So as a treat for myself after cleaning house tonight, I'm watching Getting Married in Buffalo Jump, (and my GODDESS Paul is gorgeous in that! Plus, you know, NEKKID PAUL ASS!) and there's a scene where Alex and Sophie are strolling along (on their way to the NEKKID SWIMMING HOLE!) and Alex is talking about what he did after he left town when he was 16. He says: "The first thing after I left was I worked at LaDuke. Then I got to thinking, 'What the hell are you doing?'"

He says that as if everyone will know what he's talking about. However, as an ignorant American, I want to know what/where LaDuke is, and what would he have been doing there for six years before he figured out he needed to finish HS?

Anyone? Bueller?

And also, may I wish a happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] rattlecatcher, and [livejournal.com profile] thisisbone and not-belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] the_star_fish, and also many happy returns to anyone I missed, plus, hey, Happy Solstice!!!

Same-sex legislation passed

The Liberals' controversial same-sex marriage legislation has passed final reading the House of Commons, sailing through with a vote of 158 for and 133 against. Supported by most members of the Liberals, the Bloc Quebecois and the NDP, the legislation passed easily, making Canada only the third country in the world, after the Netherlands and Belgium, to officially recognize same-sex unions.

It makes a girl proud to be a Canadphile.

In other news, someone at People magazine apparently has a sense of humor.

BPAL #7

ECLIPSE
All the glory, warmth and majesty of the sun -- darkened. A delicious blend of bitter almond, vanilla, frankincense and heliotrope, with a drop of cinnamon.

Well, apparently it was the sun on a cloudy day or in a northern clime, because it was a tad weak. The scent itself is delicious, spicy and complex, but faded much too fast. I forgot that I react to cinnamon oil, so I had to deal with red spots on my inner elbows for a little while, but they went away, no harm done. I really do like the scent, but I'd have to refresh it a couple of times a day, I suspect. And not put it in sensitive areas.
In honor of Inauguration Day, on behalf of myself and a goodly percentage of my fellow Americans, I hereby apologize to all of my international friends in advance for the next 4 years. :-P

(And I hope we Americans still have some rights left at the end of that period.)

In other, more positive news, the Canadian military has okayed gay weddings.

OTTAWA -- Gay and lesbian army couples can now get married on military bases. The Canadian Forces has quietly drafted a policy calling for military chaplains to formally bless same-sex weddings. Guidelines - considered "interim" until the federal government passes a law redefining marriage - outline the process for pre-nuptial counselling and using the on-base chapel for same-sex ceremonies.
Canada's Supreme Court okays same-sex marriage.

I was expecting this ruling, based on what I had read about the case, but it is still nice to see.

I have not yet seen the preview in question since my tape cut off before the end of the ep (I wish TV stations would coordinate their time! USA seems to perpetually run about 3-5 minutes behind the actual hour!) but I hear that CKR is going to be on Touching Evil next Friday (4/16/04). Check your local listings.

I love TV shows shot in Canada. :)

Does it strike anyone else as amusing that half the shows on the "USA" network appear to actually be "CDN"? Maybe they should change their name.
