So as a treat for myself after cleaning house tonight, I'm watching Getting Married in Buffalo Jump, (and my GODDESS Paul is gorgeous in that! Plus, you know, NEKKID PAUL ASS!) and there's a scene where Alex and Sophie are strolling along (on their way to the NEKKID SWIMMING HOLE!) and Alex is talking about what he did after he left town when he was 16. He says: "The first thing after I left was I worked at LaDuke. Then I got to thinking, 'What the hell are you doing?'"

He says that as if everyone will know what he's talking about. However, as an ignorant American, I want to know what/where LaDuke is, and what would he have been doing there for six years before he figured out he needed to finish HS?

Anyone? Bueller?

And also, may I wish a happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] rattlecatcher, and [livejournal.com profile] thisisbone and not-belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] the_star_fish, and also many happy returns to anyone I missed, plus, hey, Happy Solstice!!!

Leduc Oilfield Services, maybe? It looks like the whole town is centered around the oil company, and he could work there for six years without a high school diploma. I still haven't seen the movie, so I don't know if it fits, but it's a thought. :)

It's Leduc. It's near Edmonton and pretty much all it's known for is having the Edmonton International Airport. *thinks* Yeah, that's pretty much it. I'd guess he worked in the oil fields, since that's how young, undereducated men make money in Alberta.

Thank you! Yes, I'm sure that's it, since he later goes "up north to work on the rigs."

Working the Oil Patch

Hey Kellie,

It's been a while since I've been in touch. He probably went to Leduc to work in the oil patch. Right now most of the oil work is up in the tar sands by Fort McMurray but at the time of the movie the work would have been further south. It is a time honoured way to make a bunch of money and work very very hard in Alberta.

Catch you later- Judith
