Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lyrebird and her terrific [livejournal.com profile] solovision site I have a new icon.

Y'all should check this picture out full sized, it's gorgeous. :)

In other news, I drove my car today for the first time since the surgery. All went well. Yay!

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] sensine tagged me to do the 10 Favorite Songs meme, and you know, that's virtually impossible for me because they change with my mood and the weather. So I decided to do my 'ten obscure songs I love that almost no one else knows' instead. :) Drumroll please...

(These are in no particular order)

1) Don Cognoscenti: The Other Side
2) James Keelaghan: Mirabeau Bridge
3) Cry, Cry, Cry: The Kid
4) Jude Johnstone: Coming of Age
5) Jimmie Spheeris: The Dragon is Dancing
6) Daniel Lanois: Jolie Louise
7) Dar Williams: The Mercy of the Fallen
8) Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer: When I Go
9) David Broza: Night in Wyoming
10) Toshi Reagon: Real Love

You're better! That's good news.
Photo: guh!
List of songs - wow! I'll have to check some of them out, if they're half as good as Daniel Lanois - which I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE :)
they change with my mood and the weather Exactly!

Daniel Lanois is amazing. I hope you can find some of the others. :)

Toshi! I remember seeing her at one of her very first solo gigs years and years ago. That woman had incredible stage presence even then. I know Dar Williams's work and have heard some of Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer's stuff, so I'm definitely going to have to track down the others on your list and give a listen.

Toshi has an incredible voice and presence. She opened for Dar Williams at a concert I saw, and she literally blew out the sound system with the power of her voice. While they were fixing it, she went ahead and did her whole set acoustic, and you could not tell it wasn't amplified. I wish she'd come back to town, I would go see her in a heartbeat. Most of the others are pretty easy to find, except for Jimmie Spheeris. He was killed by a drunk driver in 1984 and his stuff can be hard to find.

I know what you mean about the power of her voice; it really is quite amazing. Another time I saw Toshi in concert singing with her mom, Bernice and the rest of Sweet Honey in the Rock - now that was truly incredible. You can really see the influence, though Toshi has her own style. Toshi also produced a good album by Casselberry and Dupree, City Down, IIRC, which is well worth buying if you can ever find it.
