Went home from work yesterday, watched the news and am still in shock. Horrible. As a Buddhist my thought is that those people have generated some seriously bad karma which will affect them later. Not that that in any way will bring the kids back to life. -For me kids are innocent and should be protected, but we all too often see them used in ugly political games. Let's hope this won't result in more bloody fighting.
I'm not a Buddhist or a pagan, but I definitely believe in Karma with a capital K. And yes, I think they're going to have some serious work to do to balance this karmic debt. No virgins in paradise for them.
You're thinking of those virgins with eyes like black pearls, and the beds with frequent sheet change? *tiny g* Huh, they should in stead go back and read the descriptions of hell (I mean those passages in the Koran) more thoroughly, they always scare my students, and they, mostly, don't even believe in them. But who are we to judge...
This is what's so frightening, though. They've been taught by certain of their religious leaders that blowing themselves and others up and holding innocent children hostages will get them into paradise. They honestly think that by doing what they're doing they'll avoid hell.
It's really sad, and my guess is that their leaders have never hinted at the passages talking about predestination or that they should only fight in defence. Luckily, it seems that most muslim leaders here are as shocked as the rest of us at what is happening.

Yes, exactly. For those of us who are pagan, there is a similar concept-- the "Threefold Law" (Meg referred to it). Whatever energy you put out into the universe, you will get it back in kind, threefold. So whatever good you do returns three-times good, and whatever bad you do returns three-times bad.
Let's hope this won't result in more bloody fighting.
That concept is something I can adhere (right word?) to, it looks like a law of nature, like I guess the karma principle is. And it reminded me of philosophers through the times (but it's in the middle of the night here, so my mind refuses to co-operate *g*)I'm so glad to hear this, we need to work harder to show people how it could be! Bloody fighting - I never could understand how the killing of innocents in any way can make the world better, I just can't see it. And I know what they use for an excuse - for the greater good, etc etc. But...but?
I wish I could understand what they hope to gain out of it. Surely any place in Paradise or whatever will be negated by all the innocent lives they've taken and the lives they've ruined.
Unfortunately it's a sign of how oppressed these people are that they feel driven to do such atrocities. Bad karma indeed. The repercussions fall on so many.
Yes,I agree Di, this is surely a troubled region. On tv here they had managed to get, in ad. to the "experts", both a Russian woman and a Tsjetsjenian (don't know the E. spe.)man to sit at the same table and discuss. You could see how bad he felt when he looked at the Russian woman, I was heartened that it seemed people in Tsj. don't support this kind of action, and that Russian tv had actually talked about the problems there. If only the different groups would try to solve the problems with oppression and other issues in a more peaceful way. Let's at least hope this has made some more people think.

I fervently hope you are right.
