Ahem.

Making a pair of tights longer does not also magically render them wider. When I buy a pair of plus-sized tights, I do not want a pair which would fit someone who is seven feet tall and of average weight. I want a pair that fits someone of average height who is pleasingly plump. This should not be a difficult thing to grasp. I don't want to pay good money for a pair that somehow manages to be both saggy and binding.

Grrrrr.

I wear stay-up tights, since I cannot deal with the droopy crotch of regular tights. Also, I like that if I ladder one leg, I can still keep the other leg.

I could absolutely be convinced to try a garter belt, actually, since it just seems like a more sensible solution to the whole problem.

By 'stay up tights' I am guessing you mean what I would call 'stockings' (thigh high, no panty) with a gripper band? I've never tried those but it might be time.

Oh, yes, like stockings, but instead of being all light and filmy, they are thick, opaque tights.

I mean, I have stockings too, but I tend to shred them on the first wear. The gripper band I find reasonably comfortable, though I'm not plus-size, but it basically grips onto your flesh with a slightly tacky wide plastic band. When I take them off, I have that sore red place like when any elastic cuts into you.

Which is why a garter belt sounds like a much more sane alternative.

Huh, interesting. I've never seen heavy opaque tights made like stockings. Where do you buy them?

The best ones I've found (even better than the more expensive department store brands) were from Target, though that's Australian Target. You want a nice high denier number for thicker tights.

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about.

I suspect if this is yet another of those places where the US is backward and deficient. I am pretty sure I've never seen those in the US. I will have to do some googling to see if I can find a US supplier.

Just My Size makes comfy nylon-ish ones, but not tights. I haven't yet found those affordably priced and in my size ...

That has always been one of my pet peeves == masking "tall" as "larger." I found that at 5'3" I preferred Queen sized, Queen Petite (yes, it exists) or 1X -- most brands come in those sizes these days.

The weird thing these days is having lost so much weight, my tights and pantyhose have become longer, not looser. It's some law of physics, apparently. I have to buy mew sizes, and I have no idea what to get.

Yes, yes, yes! Along the same lines is the tendency for them to equate a larger pants size with being 6' tall. They seem to think that anyone who wears a certain size must be an Amazon, not just plump.

I have the opposite problem : when I wore those instruments of the devil, I used to swear a lot.
Every time, the saleslady would swear the thing would fit me.
And I would end up with the crotch down to the mid-thigh (sp?)...
Finally gave up, and went to pants only.
I'm much happier now :)

Cruising a friend's list and saw your avatar. CUTE AND AWESOME. (Also, nylons are irritating buggers.)
