kelliem: icy lakefront sunrise (OT3)

Computers. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

Just spent the better part of 2 days trying to get my new wireless network card working. Still have not succeeded-- finally gave up and am using a hard connection for now. For the past 9 months I've been using a borrowed card and the lendee wanted it back so I went out and got a new one, and we cannot get the damned thing working for anything. *sigh* I know someone at work who is a bit of a guru, so I will ask him if he has any suggestions tomorrow.

On to other things.

Watched SGA: Trinity. Loved it. Everyone was good this ep, ALL of my woobies. And I am seriously developing an OT3 in this fandom. Sheppard/McKay/Zelenka. Mmmm. Must make icon. (ETA: Icon made, thanks to help from [livejournal.com profile] khamryn)

The first time I saw the below meme, it was for the year you were born not the year you graduated. And I was sad because I couldn't play, because there is no Top 100 for the year I was born. I am Too Old. But I can play this version! Yay!

Go to musicoutfitters.com, and do a search on the most popular 100 songs from the year you graduated high school. (You can do this by searching on the year you graduated). Bold the ones you actually like. (Understand that the word "like" in this case means, in the very least, "wouldn't immediately change the radio station from.") Pick a favorite. Underline that favorite. And strike through the ones you loathe.

What's odd is that I can't actually remember a lot of these songs. I dunno if that's a function of my age (aka losing it!), how forgettable the songs were, or of the radio station I tended to listen to at the time.

Hey, you have a decent year. I loathe most of the songs for my year; my favourite doesn't arrive until number 78. :)

I would have thought you'd like #33, too. :) I'm kind of surprised that the Beatles are on the list. I really don't remember them being contiguous with my HS experience. In my memory, they were earlier than that. :)

78 in '79. Al Stewart. 33 in my year was the Bee Gees and "Love You Inside Out", which I don't even remember! (I'm with you; I didn't listen to radio stations that played top 40.) Number one that year was "My Sharona". Oh my!

But then I never was into Top 40/Chart music. Heck, I saw Renaissance live in '79 and not for the first time.

The Beatles in your year? Must have been a re-release. You're not that old. :)

78 in '79.

Oops! Duh. Of course. My Sharona? You poor thing. :)

And thank you. I didn't think I was that old either. :)

I figure it's a re-release or something old that was never released previously -- definitely not a new song. Perhaps it's kind of like that Elton John song, "Are You Ready for Love" from the '70s, that was re-leased two years ago.

Yes, my year had The Knack. Sad, ain't it? Of course, we also had "YMCA" and "In the Navy" in the Top 100, so I guess there are some amusing saving graces. ;)

Or maybe since it's The Beatles it never actually LEFT the top 100 after it premiered? :-)

YMCA and In the Navy are definitely on my guilty pleasures list.:)

I don't remember The Knack. I take it that is a good thing?

You and I graduated the same year. I may have to do this one just to see how we differ. Not a lot from what I can see, but some.

Are you running XP? I can't remember.

What brand of card is it?

WHY DIDN"T YOU JUST CALL ME?

HelLO, in the loathing do I not occasionally find information of use? Like the aforementioned "known issue" with the USB ports?

From: [identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com

Yes, you do! I just didn't want to inflict Windowsness on you. Plus I thought the housemate could fix it, but... not so much.

This isn't a USB card though, so it can't be that. I even thought of that, I remembered you mentioning it. What I have is a Linksys Wireless G model WPC54G ver. 3 And it seems to be able to 'see' the neighbor's wireless, but not ours (the router for which is sitting on the desk not 12 inches away from it!) And even though it can see the neighbor's if we try to access it, it says it can't. We thought at first we had the MAC address in wrong but it's not, we reentered it several times to be sure. Then we disabled MAC filtering and it still wouldn't work. We tried deleting and reinstalling. We tried rebooting. We tried setting up the wireless connection manually. Nothing seems to work. Gah.

I have these problems with my wireless connection.

I gave up and use a cable to the modem. My networking skills are nil, so I just shrugged.

I can't remember 70% of my year's songs, and the ones I remember, I mostly dislike:

Sad, except not. I was really out of step with my peers in terms of musical tastes, so I never listened to the Top 40 unless I had a friend over.
