I heard about this from [livejournal.com profile] matociquala this morning, and man, it really got to me. I loved Andre Norton. I grew up reading her books. I think hers were the first books to really hook me on Science Fiction. I wanted to *be* her characters. She was a grand lady, and I will miss knowing she's still out there writing.

So passes one of the most profound and enduring influences in my life, if not in Science Fiction at large. Her Daybreak: 2250 AD was the first SF I ever read, and her persistant theme of the outcast making her or his own way helped me survive.

May her memory ever be green.

Daybreak was not my first SF, but it's been one of my favorites since I was just a sprog.
