They didn't screw it up and play it for laughs.
Whew. I am so relieved.
Little comments unrelated to plot: Did y'all catch the pic of an Illya-era David in Mom's room? Nice touch. And of course, the IK reference. Kate probably should have said "Who?" in response to Gibbs, since she's really not old enough to have seen MFU first run and doesn't strike me as the fanfic type who would run into MFU on the internet. :) And good casting on Ducky's mom. Nina Foch's nose and jaw are enough similar to David's that it really made it work.
And it was the first thing I've seen Morgan Weisser in since Space: Above and Beyond, I think. Nice to see him again.
Possibly spoilery comments :
For a few minutes there I thought maybe Jimmy was related to the 'Addams family.' Was relieved that he wasn't, even though I still want Gerald back.
Mom was pretty scary, wasn't she?
Why didn't they use dogs when looking for Ducky at the mortuary? That would seem to have been a logical thing to do under the circumstances.

Oh, yes! :)
A detail that bugged me : Gibbs sends one person to play bodyguard duty on two?
How can a man of his experience make that beginner's error?
And I'd have preferred they close with Ducky instead of the bickering duo. And now, they have McGee doing it too :(
But in all, excepting those annoying bits with Tony? It was great. I almost did not use the mute button :)

Yeah, that was a plot hole, but without it, we wouldn't have had much of an episode, so I guess I won't complain TOO loudly. :)
Ditto about the bickering. I do wish they would scale that back. As for Tony, it was nearly worth his annoyingness when he said "Tony, you remember, the Italian gigolo furniture mover." ROFL!

Yes, of course, you've got me there :)
Re: the bickering
It annoys the hell out of me! I don't see the appeal at all. If my brothers had treated me like that... let's say that there would have been war in the house (4 brothers, doing that kind of hazzing?)
It's so... adolescent!

Yes, me too.
How can a trained Secret Agent, who used to protect a US president, could act like a teen-ager (and a retarded one, at that) is beyond my comprehension.
What market are they trying for, anyway?
Bring out Ducky/Gibbs, anyday :)

the ending
The ending was a disappointment, most unsatisfactory. After seeing what Ducky had gone through, we needed a curtain call from him to let us know he is all right. I would have had Ducky returning to his home and his mother and the yappy dogs with Gibbs at his side.(Gibbs should have been looking after him in the first place--what was he doing instead?--sanding his boat?) Kate and Tony's bickering conclusion didn't connect the dots; the episode wasn't about them. Their blathering trivialized what had gone before.

Yes! Ducky/Gibbs slash :)
Oh, where, where is it?

Family Pix
The pix was of DMc and his father, Illya-era yes, but a McCallum family photo. I would have liked to have seen some baby pictures too.

LOL! Now that Jimmy is no longer a gibbering idiot in every scene he's starting to grow on me. But he's no Gerald. Yes, totally agree -- bring back Gerald!
Mom was pretty scary, wasn't she?
I really liked how they played her. Even if she wasn't involved in the killings, that was a believable response for a bitter mother.
Why didn't they use dogs when looking for Ducky at the mortuary?
That's a great question. And it would have tied the dogs in neatly with the story.

And yes, mom was definitely believeable.

trying to help ;)
Ahh...but it is possible that she has seen it in re-runs. That's how i know of it ;) Maybe she ended up stuck in the house at some point when she was younger, ran across it and stuck around for a few epis??
(And it was the first thing I've seen Morgan...
thank you for clearing up my 'hey it's that guy!' moment.)

True. Good point.
And you're welcome. :)

Kellie, reading your icon...IS there something between the goth chick and Duckie? And is Tony always such a whiner? I know they have the bickering thing between the two of them, but he is really annoying.

Nothing canonical, but that's why the Goddess invented fanfic. And Abby did once say she likes older men. :)
And yes, Tony is always that annoying. One of the few things I *don't* like about the show.
