The Chair took us out to lunch today to celebrate my promotion and his end-of-term. (after four years, he's more than ready to give up that job!) We went to a place I hadn't tried yet, Brasserie 1010, right across the street from The Med (apparently they are part-owned by the same people, and The Med makes their desserts mmmm!). It was really, really good! Now, if listening to someone ramble on about food is your thing, keep reading. If not, th-th-thaaat's all folks. :)

We bought a bottle of vouvray which, shared between 4 was just enough to have a glass and not enough to get drunk on, and it was absolutely delicious. :)

I had a salad nicoise, which was very good (grilled tuna, cooked to preference, mine being medium-rare). The woman who has been part-time temping for us had a seafood risotto with fresh baby peas and asparagus, our grad secretary had an oyster po'boy, and the Chair had moules frites (steamed mussels in white wine and herbs, topped with a mound of very thin-cut french-fries). Not only was the food excellent, so was the service. The surroundings are bright, clean, and airy, with real linens on the table. Unsurprisingly the place was packed.

What did surprise were the prices, which were very reasonable, I thought I'd heard that this place was pricey but the lunch menu ranged from about $7-$12, and a glance at the dinner menu told me most of the dishes were quite reasonable for an upscale place in Boulder.

For dessert they had about a half-dozen offerings that were very difficult to choose between, but I ended up with the chocolate creme brulee with fresh blackberries and raspberries, and our temp had the cherry-peach tart with pistachio gelato, and the guys didn't eat dessert. There's clearly something wrong with them. We all had coffee-- a dark french-roast, pressed at the table.

Yes, finally. I'll get a whopping $168 raise before taxes. :-P (Trying not to sound bitter, failing miserably...)

Can we go? Huh? Huh? Can we go?

Sounds like you had a well-deserved treat. And I like the new icon.

Absolutely. Next weekend if you want. :)

And I like the new icon.

Thanks, it seemed appropriate. :)

I discovered 1010 a couple of months ago when somebody took me there - I should have told you about it, but figured you were the ultimate authority on all things food in Boulder!

Ah, well, usually I only get to eat out with Amber, and Ms. Picky only likes about 3 restaurants in town so my repertoire is severely limited any more. :-P

I always love food rambling, as you well know. :P

I'll be reporting on the places we find here in Montrose in the future I'm sure. Pulled in last night about 8 and saw my new dwelling for the forseeable future. I love it! Pictures will follow next week. It's xeroscaped, so there's a yard I can't kill.

So good to be back in sunny Colorado!!!!
