Or, was. Goodnight, Walter, we'll miss you. He was 'the news' for several generations, really. What a shame he didn't quite make it to the 40th anniversary of the lunar landing. I still remember how excited he sounded. It was the first time I ever heard him sound anything but calm and soothing.

Walter Cronkite = journalistic integrity
Although I didn't realize it at the time, one of the reasons I *didn't* pursue a career in journalism (despite having sweated blood for the degree) was the profession was steadily moving away from that level of integrity to the jumble of ratings chasers, puff pieces, slanted stories, glitzy, flashy graphics and style over substance mentality the news has become.
'Uncle Walter' will be sorely missed.
