kelliem: Trek TOS top 3 (tos)
([personal profile] kelliem Dec. 19th, 2008 08:28 am)
Majel Barrett-Roddenberry passed away yesterday. She was only 76. I am bummed. I met her once, some friends and I did a group costume "Daughters of the Houses of Betazed"* for a con she was at some years back-- all variations on costumes that she'd worn as Lwaxana, and she was delighted and came up to us after the contest and chatted and insisted on getting photographs with us. She was lovely. I was glad to hear she was able to complete her work on the new Trek film (once more, she's the voice of the Enterprise) before she passed. She will be missed. ETA: Canada's National Post has an affectionate compilation of clips up.

Also passing yesterday, W. Mark Felt, aka Deep Throat, who was viewed as a traitor by some, but to me he was a hero. It seems oddly ironic that he passed just after Frost/Nixon was released.

*This is a little blurry because it was taken with a 3D camera and the image won't scan well, but you can still tell it's her. ;)

Those outfits are *gorgeous*.

It's a sad day in Trek-land.

It is indeed. And thank you! We had so much fun doing them. As soon as we learned she was going to be the GOH, we decided to do 'her' costumes. ;)

Ian posted about it first thing this morning. How sad. I'd not known she'd had leukemia. :(

But I do remember your outfits!

A) You are so awesome

B) OMG, you are all so stunning!

C) I will give you cash money if you document this experience somewhere at fanlore, because this is an awesome awesome story that should be preserved (with picture!) I am a rabid Majel fangirl and it would mean the world to me.

Thank-you so much for sharing this image. I'm feeling a bit lost with her passing.

I, too, think Deep Throat was a hero. Back in them days, nobody was supposed to say a bad word about anybody in power, and look where that attitude's got us. He did it despite the notion of truth as 'traitorous.'

May he rest well.

What a lovely memory! You're so lucky to have met her.
