Look who was in our yard today!

Actually, I am pretty sure there were two of them, at different times. One was the one in the photos, definitely a red fox-- with distinctly red fur and a white tail-tip, the other was a tiny bit larger and more dun-colored with a dark tail-tip, I think it was the Swift fox I have seen once before. (No, it wasn't a coyote, they are easy to tell apart.) I didn't manage to get pix of that one. The larger fox seems to have taken refuge from the cold in the neighbor's no-longer-used dog house. Not sure where the smaller one is denning.

Sora (our younger cat) was downstairs looking out the window when the fox was there, and was so fascinated. He kept staring outside looking for it long after it had gone.

We don't see them often, either. Maybe once or twice a year. It was amazing to see two in one day!

That's so cool! What a cute one! And you've got snow, you lucky girl.

I'd send you our snow if I could. If it hadn't melted a bit we'd have over 50 inches of the white stuff right now. Frankly, I'm tired of snow.

Frankly, I'm tired of snow. Oh I can understand that - if it's been long. I just looked at those other beautiful pictures you posted - the snow is nice to watch! I would gladly receive a batch from you :)

But be glad - we have some really strange, freaky, abnormal, scary weather in our neck of the woods. No snow, it's warm, and we have the second heavy storm in one week. A couple of days ago half the roof on our shed blew off, which I can assure you is not in any way normal here. *shudder* Luckily it seems it's getting colder now.

Wind that blows roofs off things is pretty normal in Boulder, this time of year. ;D I don't know why they call Chicago "The Windy City." Boulder's much worse.

Hopefully your weather settles down soon!

Yes! It's too bad my phone-cam isn't good enough to really pick up how thick and beautiful its fur is.

Eee, foxes! I haven't seen one of those in the urbs ever. When we lived in Boulder we saw deer constantly and bears rarely, and once I thought I saw a pine marten, but never foxes. So pretty!

I've never seen a pine marten! That would be cool. I live in the north end of town, close to a bunch of open space, so the foxes and coyotes don't have far to go to find open land. We seem to only see foxes when there's extreme weather of some sort. Right now it's the cold and snow, in previous years it's always been during a long stretch of heavy rainfall. I suspect they must den near the creek (about two blocks away) so when it rains a lot it floods out the den.

You think its the same one that comes back every year to your place? I remember you talking about her.

I know I've seen both red and Swift foxes before, but whether they are the same ones or not, I really am not sure. I like to think so, though.

Way cool! And snow still... When I left for work at 7 AM, the radio reported the current temperature as 10 C (50 F). *sigh*

Weather's just weird this year, all over the place. :-P
