This ep pissed me off in a lot of ways. I loved the idea of the challenge, I was wishing they'd do a challenge where they had to design for real people, especially plus sizes, and so I was glad to see them do one, but boy most of them failed miserably.

Vincent finally designed something I liked, and I thought Ulli and Michael did great work, and Kayne's top was cute-- though personally I'm not fond of capris or clamdiggers or whatever you call them. I think they tend to make short fat people look even shorter and fatter. Laura's... geez. Way to make a nice looking well-proportioned woman look like crap. Robert's was, sadly, boring. Angela's was kind of ... WTF? She did so well with her other Audrey H. dress, it's like she forgot or something. Or just couldn't resist little foofy dangly things.

Jeffrey's dress... that was a trainwreck. Not even Lane Bryant would sell that piece of crap in their muumuu section. Poor baaaby, he had to design for a fat lady. The horror. And Jeffrey has enough asshole for about 4 people. If anyone ever needs an asshole transplant, maybe he can be a donor.

If Jeffrey had treated my mother like that I would have smacked the shit out of him. I don't see how Angela restrained herself. I think he took out all his dislike of Angela out on her mother. Then in the end, he frigging cried on his mommie's shoulder like he was the injured party. He is a giant asshole.

Yeah, me too. Jeffrey would be sporting a split lip if it was my mom he was treating lke that. At least his mother took the time to try and comfort Angela's mother.

Yeah, at least his mother did try to make her feel better. She tried to smooth things over. Probably been doing that his whole life. He's just really abrasive. They have a pattern to the seasons. The final three will have one person who is an ass that you don't want to win. Like Wendy Pepper from the first season or Santino from the second. So either Jeffrey or Angela (who is a little annoying) will probably last till the end. Much to my annoyance.

Yeah, I was struck how most (if not all of them) were so much less creative when it came to *real* people.

Which says a lot about the fashion industry. We're not actually supposed to wear this crap in every day life.

But it was fun to see their mothers.

Depending on the runway show, actually we're not. Sometimes it's a sort of performance art, and hey, if someone wants to actually buy it and wear it, one will be made to order. But a lot of times runway shows are only to attract new customers to the clothing a label makes. Some PR challenges are more in this vein, and some, like last night's, are more real world.

I thought it was really interesting how Vincent really stepped forward with this challenge. He seemed really confident and competent at 'real life' designining. It's the first time I have seen that in him. He may be better at 'real' fashion than 'art' fashion.

Yup. I'll bet that makes him one of the most employable.

Oh yeah, a lot of 'fashion' is never meant to really be worn, even by people who look like Heidi Klum. (Speaking of things that were never meant to be worn, that outfit of hers last night should go on that list!) But it also explains why so much of what is meant to be worn is unwearable by those of us with less than perfect proportions.

It was interesting hearing Michael Kors comments-- he clearly has a clue what to do for plus-sized women. I don't think he has a plus-sized line, though. Not that I could afford it if he did... ;D

That was my point. I realize that what comes down the haute runway is fantasy stuff, but I've also read that when they design everyday lines of women's clothes, they sometimes cut and pin the outfits on *guys* (which may explain why there is no hip room in jeans).

What struck me was how *thrown* everyone was by actually having to put clothes on a person of real proportions and then design something that actually might be worn in everyday situations.

Jeffrey is an ass and a half. And yes, probably some of that is due to what he's been through, but that's not an excuse. He was an ass, and he owes Angela's mother an apology. I can only imagine how Angela's comment "It's embarrassing" will play out in the work room next week. I think Jeffrey is generally a good designer. I'm tempted to believe that part of the horrid outfit he submitted last night was as a big "screw you" to Angela's mother, and to Angela herself.

I didn't think Kayne's outfit was so horrible either, but I agreed with Nina that it needed more contrast and less coral coloring.

If Ulli and Michael don't make it to the final three, there is no justice.

He's been an ass since I started watching, which was a couple of eps in, so I don't know if he's been an ass all along. But he's consistently negative, arrogant, and unlikeable. He has turned out some nice stuff-- I actually thought he should have won the recyclables challenge, but his attitude makes me want him to lose.

Ditto about Ulli and Michael. Both of them have done a consistently good job.
