I apologize to anyone whom my last entry offended. I obviously didn't consider all the ramifications. Live and learn. The hard way.

In the future I'll use cut tags even for mood spoilers.

PLEASE don't tell me someone got huffy about your Blair's hair comment. I mean...!!!

From: [identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com

No, it wasn't the Blair's hair thing. Though that probably offended someone too.

From: [identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com

Mmmm! That sounds wonderful right now. I should go get mine out of the freezer. :)

From: [identity profile] tinriddick.livejournal.com

Um...it's your journal so why apologize? If you want to post a whole 'Rosebud was a sled' and even a 'diving tanks can't be blown up by a bullet the shark should live' then that's your thing....(if you're doing the sarcastic thing then i apologize...but the sad mood and the icon gave me the idea you're serious so...)

From: [identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com

I apologized because I truly didn't mean to offend or slight anyone. I actually thought I was being humorous. But someone was upset by my comment and I feel badly about it and I believe in owing up to my mistakes.

From: [identity profile] tinriddick.livejournal.com

Well, i get the owing up part and you have to do what you think is right, but i hope you don't start censoring yourself for fear of upsetting someone. *Would offer cookies and tea but i see there was already talk of Vodka so ;) Hope you feel better soon.

From: [identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com

I think we all censor ourselves socially, all the time. It's a normal thing to do. It's just that sometimes on LJ I forget that I don't exist in a vacuum. It's harder, in cyberspace, to remember that.

Thank you though. I appreciate your kindness.

From: [identity profile] bluster.livejournal.com

I understand being sensitive to spoilers, but to simply say "I liked it" is imnsho not a spoiler. Heck, it's not even really a mood spoiler since you give not even a hint as to *why* you liked it. {{{hugs}}}

From: [identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com

I don't think it was so much the mood spoiler, as the fact that I made fun of people who believe in them. That wasn't very nice of me.

From: [identity profile] bluster.livejournal.com

*sigh* I suppose. It just goes to show that you have to be careful about what you say online. Because I know you I know you didn't mean any offense.

From: [identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com

You have to be careful what you say in any social situation, whether RL or online. I just sometimes put my foot in my mouth. In both. It's a problem I've had ever since I was a kid, and I do try to be careful about it. I don't always succeed. Obviously.

In any case, I doubt the person I offended will even see this, but I figured there might be others out there who felt the same.

i must not be someone who believes in them, b/c i don't even know what one is, much less how one could possibly be offended to that level by saying 'i don't believe in them.'

**hugs** and while it is important to be sensitive to others, it is still YOUR journal.

vitaminJ makes the analogy that it's like putting the cookie jar in an open part of the house and then someone comes along, steals a cookie, and then gets mad b/c it's not the kind they like.

From: [identity profile] bethbethbeth.livejournal.com

Oh dear. I've been doing the same kind of thing (saying "for those people who think saying "Harry Potter is a wizard" constitutes a spoiler, I'm using a cut tag). I wnder if I'm upsetting people too? Nobody's said so yet, but...

*hugs you*

From: [identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com

It's hard to know. Thanks for the hugs.

Hey, did you get that polar bear pic I emailed you a week or so ago?

From: [identity profile] bethbethbeth.livejournal.com

I wrote back about that picture!

*glares at email*

But see my icon? I'd already found the picture on yahoo, and see what happened to it...

From: [identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com

Bad email! No donut!

And LOL! Those glasses remind me of the goggles on Mr. Hollywood Wraith last night! ;D

wait...did you just tell me the PREMISE of the series??? how dare you!!! *g*

happy belated b'day!!!!!!

kelli, i already said it in st.crispins' lj...i actually get the mood spoiler concept (even if i find it mildly over the top like many spoiler issues), but your post??? so not a mood *spoiler*!!!! *hugs*

From: [identity profile] shiningmoon.livejournal.com

I frankly don't think you have anything to apologize for, but it's nice of you to try to be so considerate of others. (Which is why I like ya so much. :) )

From: [identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com

There are folks who consider comments like 'I liked it' or 'I hated it' or 'it pissed me off' to be mood spoilers, since knowing how others reacted to an episode or movie can influence the way they see it themselves.

From: [identity profile] st-crispins.livejournal.com

So, let me get this straight: one shouldn't say "I liked it" (presumably not going into detail about why) without a cut?

[shakes head]

From: [identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com

Yes.

Though, to be fair, I think the person who was upset with me was upset more by me making fun of people who believe in mood spoilers than for the spoiler itself. And that's a valid complaint. Just because one does not oneself hold a particular belief, doesn't make it okay to ridicule those who do.

From: [identity profile] st-crispins.livejournal.com

You're way too nice.

I think not allowing someone to say simply "I liked that" is bullying. I really dislike the fandom wank style of bullying but this 'mood' thing seems to me the flip side. In both cases, it's like saying the universe revolves around me and my likes/dislikes and everyone had better tread lightly.

Your little joke was just that ---little ---, hardly mean and a gentle josh against an attitude that I find, frankly, oppressive.

I guess it's a good thing I'm not in SG, huh?

Oh, for God's sake. *hugs you* This fandom is getting so touchy. If you had offended the people who believe in racial equality, that's one thing. To piss off the people who believe in mood spoilers? Please. Let's all grow a fricking sense of humour.

From: [identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com

Thanks, hon. I did intend the comment to be funny, but one person's funny is another person's offensive, and I should know that by now. It's not the first time something I've said on LJ has resulted in defriendings.

From: [identity profile] kudra2324.livejournal.com

oh, lord. just...people need to back away from the take-everything-too-seriously crack.

it's very nice of you to apologize, though.

From: [identity profile] ardent-muses.livejournal.com

:::Hugs you::::

Anybody who knows you knows that you wouldn't hurt a fly. Or even a spider. And certainly not a person.

You're a good friend. I'm sorry whoever got upset with you doesn't know that.
