[livejournal.com profile] julad has written a very intriguing essay about a basic divide in slash fandom regarding how overtly emotions are/should be expressed in fiction. It's something I've never really thought about in those terms before, and reading it gave me one of those 'Nail. Hammer. Bang.' moments. I finally think I understand why some stories work for me and others fall flat. I'd always thought of it as a characterization issue, but now I realize that it's (often) not so much a matter of characterization as it is stylistic preference. Go read the essay, it'll make you think. (And while you're at it, read her excellent Stargate: Atlantis fic The Secret Lives of Scientists and Absurdity Theory.)

In other news, I go in tomorrow to get spayed. I should be out of the hospital by Saturday but I have no idea when I'll feel like being online again. Though it's not like I post here all that often so I doubt anyone will feel a great fluctuation in The Force if I'm away for a bit. :)

I didn't mean I didn't think anyone would miss me, just that as infrequently as I post, no one might notice. :)

Thanks for the good wishes.

Everybody is "waiting" for the new story, of course. I am not yet fully awake, sorry.
