Well, the holiday turned out to be pretty nice after all. My brother, bless him, got me exactly the things I asked for (I think it helped that I was asking him for 'guy' things like a multi-tool and a microlight), and we had a nice family gathering, my mother didn't make any of her patented tactless faux pas, and my daughter didn't have too horrible a time at her father's house. And then today I talked to one of the volunteers at the animal shelter-- the vet was busy, but the volunteer told me that Mikage is doing much better and they expect him to pull through, though it will still be a while before we can take him home. Thank you all for your good thoughts and wishes. I know they helped.

My daughter is currently on her way to LA with her uncle (who has a pickup truck!) to retrieve some things she had to leave there in storage. I hope a) that the drive isn't too traumatic since the route they are taking is supposed to be getting 2-4 feet of snow this weekend and b) that she and her uncle come out of this with a better understanding of each other. It would be nice. :-)

I'm glad to hear your kitten is on the mend. You must have a great vet.

This is the shelter vet, not even our 'usual' one. She seems to be very competent if a little pessimistic. But they said we might even be able to start visting him by next weekend. :)
