All good things must come to an end, and so the Time of Visitation is over.
bluster and
shayheyred have come and gone, hopefully with many fond memories, and
ardent_muses is no doubt wishing she'd never agreed to drive. But she was a very good driver!
Friday night we ended up spending separately,
shayheyred at
ardent_muses' house and the next morning Ardent brought Shay up to Boulder where we rendezvoused with Linda C. at Brasserie 1010 for brunch. After lunch we strolled the downtown mall-- they were having an art fair, and drooled over hand-made jewelry, ceramics, and other art, then we adjourned to Linda's house for a day of watching Sol Madrid and Man from UNCLE eps. We enjoyed this so much we ended up skipping Shakespeare that evening in favor of Old Chicago pizza and more MFU. Shay is delightful, funny, smutty, sarcastic and all in all a joy to be around. You all know already how I feel about Bluster and Ardent, who are among the coolest folks on the planet. Linda was the hostess with the mostest and even though she's primarily a Gen person, she put up with our en-slash-goggled mooning over Illya and Napoleon with amazing good humor. When we could no longer put off the inevitable, we dragged ourselves back to my house and crashed for the night.
Next day I woke everyone up at the ungodly hour of 9-ish a.m. and made breakfast, then we embarked upon an adventure. We went up to Rocky Mountain National Park. Ardent volunteered to be our chauffeur, something I am fairly sure she was regretting after I talked her into going up Old Fall River Road and down Trail Ridge Road. The tourist brochure describes OFRR as: "a popular trip for more adventurous motorists, is a dramatic 11-mile journey uphill past waterfalls, glacial deposits, icy pools, and breathtaking views. Sheer cliffs rise from the edge of the road to towering heights above." I sort of forgot to mention that part about the sheer cliffs. And that it's gravel. And has hairpin switchbacks. And it's one-way so you can't turn around and go back if you change your mind. But she was an utter trooper and pulled off the drive with panache, so now Shay and Bluster have both seen actual tundra, some ground squirrels, a marmot, and some elk. And pretty much every single person from the state of Nebraska who were ahead of us on the road in SUV's and pickemup trucks that didn't have tight enough turning radii. They have also visited the Trail Ridge Store o' Random Tourist Crap. :) (NB: They had the coolest dichroic glass planetary system paperweights!!) On the way back down to Boulder, we stopped at Villa Tatra for a variety of Polish goodies, including the best cabbage rolls I have ever tasted. After we got home we hung out for a while, then Ardent and Shay opted to go back down to Denver so as to avoid having to sleep on my couches again. Not that I blame them.
Monday I slept later than I intended to so Bluster and I didn't make it up to Denver until after noon. Then Ardent, once more the chauffeur, tooled us around Denver pointing out such highlights as the Mint, the Cash Register Building, and the baseball stadium, and many other interesting places (she knows a LOT about Denver!). I pointed out the amazingly ugly Art Museum and the Pepsi Center. We had lunch at a deserted Brooklyns (the staff were puzzled why we ate there when there were no events on at the Pepsi Center) and then hied it back to Ardent's house to watch... more MFU! It's so much fun to watch these with other fen. Eventually we were getting yawny and so Bluster and I hightailed it back to Boulder to get some sleep.
This morning, Bluster and I visited the infamous Cheese Importers Gourmet Warehouse and spent far too much money on excellent cheeses, olives, and sausages before she had to head home to the Land of Flat, Hot, and Humid. Ardent took Shay to the airport and hopefully she is now safely back in the Land of Hot, Humid, and Tall Pointy Buildings.

And I had a blast and a half with you and the above-named usual suspects. I'll be posting my own recollections, tomorrow, probably.
What a joy it was to meet you, and to see
I shall be squeeing for some time to come over our fannish weekend.
Thanks for all your gracious shlepping and guiding, for smart conversation, for being as smutty and sarcastic as I am, and for just being you. I think it must be love.
And, P.S., now that I've met you, I think you need a cuter icon. Just sayin'.

It was such a great extended weekend, and I honestly hated to see it come to an end. Although I have to admit it's good to be home and it'll be nice to sleep in my own bed tonight. :-)

Now, Nikita, on the other hand....have you noticed yet that I stuffed her in my suitcase and stole her?
