kelliem: Kitty hi (hi)

Man, it's been forever since I posted! Between moving offices at work, losing one of my full-time staff to budget cuts, having a brief but very welcome vacation, a family gathering, and just the vagaries of living, I haven't had much time for online stuff until just recently, and I kept thinking I needed to post something and not doing it. So, now I am.

For those of you playing the home game, the young Flickers have left the nest. Yay for this year's brood making it all the way to graduation! We've been trying to attract some hummingbirds in back by planting flowers, but so far have only had one brief sighting.

[personal profile] bluster came to visit for a few days, we hung around a lot having actual conversations, went to a movie (The Proposal, very cute rom-com), went up to ardent_muses' place and watched some NASCAR (I just tagged along, they're the fans) and we had dinner at this new Moroccan restaurant called Tangier one night. It was a blast. The food was great (especially the b'stilla!), and they gave us honorary Fezes to wear and complimentary glasses of arak which was strong enough to strip paint.

On the TV front, The Closer and Saving Grace are good, and Leverage is about to start up again! Yay! Also, Eureka started tonight, which made me v.v. happy! Fun ep! Watched Warehouse 13 the other night-- I might give it another shot. The first hour was slow but it picked up in the second. I don't buy the chick as a comfort-eater, though. She's way too skinny. ;D (Yes, I know that's a false generalization.) I've been watching Top Chef Masters, which is pretty fun even if it's not exactly what I want out of Top Chef. Next Food Network Star is predictably bizarre, though, which makes up for missing some of that drama on Top Chef. ;D Finally, just finished watching the last ep of this series of Torchwood, and I have to say, that's got to be the biggest FUCK YOU! I ever saw from a series creator to his fans.

Yeah, TW was a major fuck you to the fans. I don't get why anyone would do that, but that's me. We got screwed in SGA, too, but nothing like this.

I like THE CLOSER and SAVING GRACE. I'm really looking forward to the return of LEVERAGE. I hope they don't fuck it up since I heard Jeri Ryan is joining the crew.

I want to know if Barrowman is leaving the franchise fulltime for real. Etc. I kept saying, this can't be the ending, but we're out of time. :(

Ditto. I read that Barrowman was upset about the shortened season, don't know what's up as far as future Capt. Jack goes. There's an article here that hints Barrowman would be up for it, though.

TW: That's probably the best description of what happened that I've seen so far.

I'm still kind of boggled by TW. It just made not sense at all, not even for DW/TW-verse. No word that the show is ending, no clue about future seasons and this was possibly an easy out to end it all -- just nothing! [livejournal.com profile] towerbridge2006 has been to the official TW site several times looking for updates or some sort of clue. They apparently had a standing message regarding death threats to the writers, producers and actors.

There's a part of me that just can't believe that this is the end, that Jack might not meet up with the Doctor in the upcoming series and The Doctor fix it up a bit. But... I realize that's a huge stretch. *sigh*

Yeah. I'm just not sure at this point how they could redeem the show. I suppose they could start over with all new everyone except Jack, but... even then it feels wrong.

That said, death threats are a tad much. It's a TV show for heaven's sake!

Ohhh, love b'stilla. Describe arak? Am wondering if it is anything like airag.

Interesting! I thought that was called kumis. What does it taste like?

My thought was that Russell T. Davies was taking a page out of Joss Whedon's book: kill off some of the main characters when you leave (or write a movie that fans really asked for) so that you don't have to write any more episodes/movies and neither can anybody else.

That doesn't explain the 5-episodes instead of 13, but it does explain him writing the script to destroy the Torchwood base in Cardiff. Not happy with that at all. Maybe it's a fuck you to the BBC and not the fans. After all, BBC moved the show to a higher-profile station - if I read the article correctly - and then decided they wanted only five episodes instead of 13. Still, I'm not impressed with Davies destroying everything.

Of course, I'm still annoyed at how Russell T. Davies ended his version of Doctor Who, not to mention some of the choices he made during his days writing the show. I'm not surprised that he chose this route. I'm just surprised that he let Gwen live! (since he killed off every other human connected with Torchwood.) I suppose Jack had to say goodbye to someone...
