In completely unrelated and very random news, a younger friend was complaining today that he couldn't see what Mary Ann Singleton saw in her "loser boyfriend" (i.e., Brian.) I replied that I couldn't really see what _he_ saw in _her_, but had to rethink my position after reflecting on how much my mental image of both characters is shaped by your "Shadows Fade." I've re-read it quite a few more times than I've read any of the original Tales books! Anyway, I linked him to the story - I'll let you know if it changes his opinion of Brian at all. :)
