According to her surgeon, mom's back surgery went very well and he expects her to sail through her recuperation. He actually said he might let her go home on Monday, to which both my brother and I objected. We think she really ought to have a few days in a rehab center before she goes home, since she lives alone in a 3-floor condo where the bedrooms are on the top floor and the living and laundry rooms are in the basement. He said he would keep that in mind. She was was out of surgery by about 5:30 but in the recovery room for ages as they were having trouble getting her pain controlled-- but they finally let her go to a room around 8:30. I spent most of the time waiting in my sister-in-law's room-- she had a knee replacement earlier the same day, and they put them in rooms two doors apart so it'll be pretty easy to bop between them to visit. :) Oh, and her anesthesiologist looked amazingly like Ducky!

Thank you all so much for your good thoughts, I know they helped.

So glad she's doing so well. I'm glad you spoke up about releasing her too early to go home. So many times doctors don't know what the whole situation is and the patient just wants to go home. Sometimes that's not the best thing.

Fingers crossed, she'll continue to do well.

I'm so happy to hear that things went well. Yeah, with three floors to navigate, she really needs to work up to that.

I'm happy to hear that things went well with your mom's surgery. Sorry I missed the original posts. As someone with surgery in my own future, I'm always glad to hear about the successes.

I'm sighing in relief. I'm glad the surgery went well, it can be tricky. It 'does' sound strange for him to send her home without at least a few days in rehab. *whooshes more positive energy her way*

Drat... I want to see 'Ducky'. ;-)

I'm glad the surgery went well and that her doctor is so optimistic. I definitely agree that a rehab center or some kind of skilled nursing facility is a good idea. That way they can help your mom keep on top of any pain management needs and you know she's not running up and down stairs.

Be good to yourself while you take care of your mom.

Great news, Kellie - I'll keep fingers and toes crossed for a speedy recovery! And a Ducky look-alike? Woof. Woof again.
