Pretty ridiculous, eh? I mean, I know art is in the eye of the beholder, but it should take more than a turntable and a few bottles of tempera to create.
The funniest part of this post, to me, was that I looked at the picture before reading your commentary and thought, "Hey, it's one of those paintings done with that spinner thing!"
Then I actually read your comment. Great minds... :-D
Yeah, art is art is art. Some of the modern stuff, especially statues that look like garbage dumps floor me. Ah, well, it's going ot charity and it's not my money, thank god.
except I'm turning 49, which doesn't make you too ancient in comparison, and possibly younger than me. :)
I had a discussion the other day where I was insisting to someone that because she's 7 years older than me, at this age that hardly makes her "much older."
I made a rather nice picture with this sort of device as a child. It was like a big blue bird, wings widely spread in front of the rising sun. I still have it and now, I'm thinking to have it framed. Maybe I can become a millionaire by selling it to your generous buyer? (frankly my bird is thousand times more beautiful than this whirling top!)

Not sure who bought it (if it was the government or a museum), but I recall the price was around 2-3 million. Yeah, only Canadian $, but still.
There was quite an outcry ;-)
