Thursday evening we saw a fox in the yard again-- not the adult female we usually see, this one was just a young 'un, I suspect one of this year's litter. Lovely animal. I really like that they feel at home in our yard. We are not much for yard maintenance so the bushes around the perimeter of the yard are pretty 'wild' and make a great place for foxes to hang out when it's either too wet, or too hot for their tastes elsewhere. Friday night I watched the first ep of the new SciFi channel series, "Flash Gordon" and was a little disappointed that it wasn't campier. It had a few moments, and there was some humor, but over all it didn't grab me. Not to mention, what is up with a blond Ming???

Today I went to see Stardust with the kidunit, and it was just as wonderful as [livejournal.com profile] theamusedone said it was. Best thing I've seen in AGES. Not only was it a wonderful lark of a movie with a ton of fine performances and a marvelous script, but there is a subtle message of tolerance throughout the movie that I adored. A message I suspect was subliminal enough to make it under the radar of many people who see the film who might generally not be particularly tolerant. :-)

Then we stopped at a new Indian restaurant on the way home and was pleased by both the food, and the unexpected treat of a very good belly dancer performance. Somehow I must have given it away that I used to dance (many many moons ago) because she came by the table and asked me if I did, and tried to get me to come out with her, but it's been over 20 years so I demurred. Still, it was fun to watch her, especially when she got a little girl from one of the other tables to come out with her and learn a few moves.

I don't usually talk much about me, but I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] brynwulf and [livejournal.com profile] annezo at lunch the other day and bemoaning the fact that I feel so fannishly... disconnected. My fannish identity has always been tied up, in large part, to my writing, and since I haven't felt the creative spark in ... forever... it seems like, I'm missing that whole chunk of my fannish life. Then there's discussion-- since the advent of blogs, it's hard to know where to look for discussion (non-meta discussion, since I'm generally too intimidated to try and get into meta since I don't have 3 PhD's in Literary Analysis) about one's fannish interests, since everything's so fractionated. I miss that aspect of mailing lists. Part of the problem is. I suspect, my own fault because I don't post much about what I like and am watching. So... here goes. I'm going to put up a list, and I want you to tell me where we coincide. :-)

Stuff I love:

ReGenesis
Eureka
Dr. Who
Heroes
Alton Brown: Dining on Asphalt
ETA:
Blood Ties
The 4400
Forensic Files/Psychic Detectives/East Mission Road/Any Court TV other than the Cops-style stuff.

Stuff I like but wish was better than it is:

Torchwood (I liked maybe half the eps, and would just as soon they ditched Owen permanently)
Kyle XY (just not as fun this season)
NCIS (I wish they'd lose the jingoistic edge they've developed!)
Stargate: Atlantis (v v worried about next season)

What I'm looking forward to coming back in the fall:

Jericho
Bones
House
Criminal Minds (a tad worried about how a major cast change will play out)

New shows I'm looking forward to:

Heroes: Origins
Journeyman (Yeah, it sort of looks like a Quantum Leap clone but... Kevin McKidd!)
New Amsterdam (A cross between Highlander and Forever Knight?)
Pushing Daisies (a reworked Tru Calling?)

Guilty Pleasures:

Top Chef
Ice Road Truckers
Project Runway
The occasional America's Next Top Model marathon with the kidunit. :)
ETA: Ghost Hunters

So, tell me where our tastes coincide!

ETA: I forgot a category!

Stuff that's not on any more but that I still like on general principle:

Man from Uncle, The Wild Wild West, ST:TOS, ST:TNG, The X-Files, Highlander: The Series, Space: Above & Beyond, Brisco County Jr., due South, Prey, Rome.
