I don't usually rec things... in fact I kind of abhor recs because they always seem to lead to hurt feelings (i.e., why didn't that bitch rec MY stuff??), but I'm going to rec something anyway. It's not in my usual fandom, and I stumbled across it accidentally the other night through a crack-van rec for a different story by the same author. I think this has got to be one of the best slash stories I have ever read in any fandom. It's Pirates of the Caribbean, Jack Sparrow/Norrington (which is the only pairing I actually 'read' when watching the film).
It's actually a series of 4 linked stories "Full Moon," "Tides," "Drowning," and "Currents," by
firesignwriter. Her men are men, complicated men who have deep emotions, who hide those emotions from themselves and each other, and only gradually reveal them, but never in the light of day. The story is layered, the writing is crisp, literate, and nuanced, and the story is profound and moving. The point of view is consistent, praise the Lady! Oh, and, uh... it's hot. Very very hot. Did I mention that it's hot? :-)
Anyway, go read.
6:00 pm ETA: lovely Theban Band Sparrow/Norrington pics here. Probably oughtn't open these at work or in front of easily embarrassed elderly relatives, some are NSFW.
