Some years back (good grief, has it really been twelve years??) I was a fan of a short-lived show called Space: Above & Beyond and in particular the incredibly intense James Morrison in the role of Colonel Tyrus Cassius McQueen (some of you may be more familiar with Morrison's current role of Bill Buchanan on 24.) Recent discussions in thisisbone's journal reminded me how much I liked the show and I dug out my DVDs and started watching them, which led to my wanting a McQueen icon (see above), which led to me doing a Google Images search which led to me finding this page on his official site.

And YES I loved S:A&B because of McQueen. What a cool character he was.

He's actually really nice. I got to meet him at a mini-con in SLC about a decade ago, and I was impressed by how he went out of his way to make the shyest people in the group feel welcomed and included. He's also very creative- he writes plays and poetry, and directs films. I remember a friend of his who was also at the con telling the story of how he met his wife when they were in a play together and his character was abusive toward hers and after the play he'd go throw up because the idea of abusing her was so repugnant to him. After hearing that, it's hard to understand how he lands parts where he's really pugnacious and/or ruthless (like "Lewis" in Prey). :)

I know. I swear I've been abducted by aliens because otherwise I don't know how that much time passed. I wonder if I will get some 4400-like abilities now? ;D

Wow is right, too. And you should definitely rewatch it. I've been doing that. It holds up very well (other than the usual sci-fi show problems like sound traveling in vacuum, etc.)

It's been 12 years and I *don't* have the damn show on DVD.

*sigh*

I'm going to add both Morrison's books to my Amazon wishlist. I'm very intrigued by the play, especially given the Alaskan setting, and I love discovering new poets.

I wonder if my folks have worked with him. It would depend on when he was in Alaska, I guess.
