kelliem: aurora borealis (skylight)

Since I was one of the few people who didn't get to go to Connexions this weekend I treated myself to new hair (cut and foils in maroon and gold) from my incredible stylist, Kim, which I am very happy with. I think it's the best cut she's ever done for me. Ate out several times, including the great BBQ at Shorty's, Went to see Hidalgo with my daughter. Not a bad movie, though I understand that Mr. Frank T. Hopkins was an inveterate... shall we say ... embroiderer of tales so one must take the movie with a grain of salt. Still, it was well done, and it was nice to hear Viggo actually enunciating for once. :) Took the cat for several walks. He got introduced to a neighbor cat and was not at all nice about it. Bad Riku. I have a couple of new pix of him I just put up here.

it's not as if they promoted it as a documentary, man, i mean... it's disney. it was a good story, and i think that's all it was meant to be. whether frank hopkins really went to arabia or not is immaterial, i mean, if braveheart being as full of shit as IT was can win 10 oscars then i feel pretty okay about giving hidalgo my willing suspension of disbelief.

Oh no, I totally agree. In my head I was sort of arguing with my ex who apparently told my daughter the story was BS, but we didn't care a bit. It was a great story and we had a good time watching it. :)

I hope you can come next year. A lot of fun discussion and episode viewing. Your friends talked about you a lot and I'd love to meet you and read your stories.

I noticed that Due South people seem to lean toward exuberant red-toned hair.

It sounds like a great time was had by all, and I'm really hoping I'll be able to go next year. This year was just impossible, due to work and financial issues.

We Due South folks tend to red hair, eh? Interesting. I wonder what that says about us? :)

I was thinking the other day about similarities between dS and MFU, actually. Both feature a sort of 'fish out of water' foreign partner paired with a more stereotypical 'American,' both have one partner who tends toward impulse, charm and instinct and one who is more methodical, intellectual and socially inept; both have a blond and a brunet partner... no wonder I liked both. My childhood love of MFU set me up to like dS. :-)

I hope you can get there next year, as I'd really like to meet you. I realized while I was there this year that you wrote the first slash I was ever recommended (the Methos and Duncan in Space stories) so, in an extended sense, you're responsible for me being in fandom. (Which is probably a very scary thought. :))

Oh, the "Dark into Light" series. Wow. Blast from the past! My first slash. Before that I used to write icky het stuff. ;-D The amusing thing is, I once said I would NEVER write slash. Now I write nothing but. Just goes to show you should never challenge the universe like that.

Aside: I had to do a lot of research on slash before I started writing it, borrowed a lot of slashzines from people. Was shocked and appalled by the amount of violence and rape I encountered in them. Ick. Not my bag. I'm a vanilla girl. :)
