Small Worlds was by far the best Torchwood episode so far. IMNSHO, of course. Written by P.J. Hammond, who was largely responsible for the late 70's/early 80's cult hit Sapphire & Steel, it had a goodly share of that series' disturbingly eerie darkness without its admittedly glacial pacing. Small Worlds was like Sapphire and Steel on speed. I loved the unresolved nature of the ending, something Sapphire and Steel also did extremely well. The episode was truly unsettling in spots, and some excellent acting, especially on the part of John Barrowman, and the actress (sorry, I tried the IMDB but her name is not listed) who played Jasmine's mother, really brought the ending to life. It also seemed less... self-conscious than previous episodes.
It was also nice to see a little of Jack's history revealed: his emotional connection with Estelle, and the story of his experience in Lahore were very interesting. I hope we get more tidbits like that in the future.

I am still not loving John himself, he seems to be made of plastic, but he was very good in this and hey, so not bitching about his character!

And yeah, John B. needs to back away from the cosmetic surgeon, but he's still sweet. :)
