RIP Paul Winfield. He was only 62. Died Sunday of a heart attack.

I can never think of him without hearing him intone: "Darmok & Gilad, at Tenagra." That was, imho, one of the best Trek eps ever filmed, in any of its incarnations.

He was one of my "Hey, it's THAT guy!" actors. You always knew if he was in something, it'd be worth watching.

Huh. I didn't know he was gay until I checked his IMDB entry just now.

Aw. I liked him a lot. I didn't know he was gay, either, although I find I'm not startled by the news.

I liked him best in "The Charmings" (as the snarky Mirror) but he was good just about everywhere, regardless of overall strength of the project.

Oh, *God*, I loved that ep! Brilliant, brilliant, and he was absolutely mesmerizing. Talk about a guy with charisma to spare...

So sorry he died so young. I've got a long (and growing) list of assholes I'd *pay* to see dead, and then something like this happens. ::sigh:: Life sure isn't fair, is it?

Interestingly I never pegged him as gay when he was onscreen. But he narrated the tv show "City Confidential" and his delivery was extremely effeminate when heard without his physical presence, so I am less than shocked. He certainly was a good actor and will be missed.

I don't think I ever heard him without seeing him. Interesting.

Paul was one of those actors who just seemed to show up everywhere. I was surprised to see IMDB listed him in an MFU episode, and then I remembered Minus X Aff and said omg, he was the guard who'd been dosed with Minus X!

Where on IMDB is there mention he was gay? I missed it.

Yeah, I remember thinking "Oh look! It's Paul Winfield!" when I saw that scene.

I must admit it was an assumption on my part that he's gay, based on this entry under 'trivia': His partner of 30 years, set designer and architect Charles Gillan Jr., has died of a rare bone disease in LA. [5 March 2002] They don't usually list business partners that way. Sad-- Paul lasted just barely over a year after his partner died.

Awww. I really liked him. That's a shame. He was too young.

No idea here that he was openly gay. Cool.

Thanks for the info.

"Darmok" was one of my favorite STNG episodes.

It's sad; he was relatively young.
