So I had to go to the grocery store to get some dishwasher soap and a few other things. I finish up and am on my way home, sitting in the turn lane minding my own business waiting for the light to change when this SUV comes up behind me and hits me.
It wasn't a huge bump, it didn't kill the car and I was pretty sure there wouldn't be any damage b/c I didn't hear any crunching sounds, but... WTF? So I go on around the corner when the light turns, and he follows me over to the side of the road and I get out to check the car and he gets out too. It's a guy in his mid-thirties, I'd guess, and he says "Sorry about that, I, uh..." he trails off
"Wasn't paying attention?" I finish for him.
"I was talking to my daughter," he says defensively, gesturing at his phone.
"Weren't paying attention." I repeat, somewhat sternly. I look at the car, and it's clear there's no damage so I say. "It looks okay this time, but in the future you should probably pay more attention to your driving and less to your phone."
And he says "Hey, there's no reason to have a bad attitude!"
And I am like WTF? You hit me because you were talking on your phone and not paying attention and I am not allowed to have a little attitude???
Since when?
He probably went home and ranted to his family about the fat old bitch with the bad attitude who had the gall to criticize his driving. Sheesh.

When I see people talking on their phones here, holding the phones up to their ears, I keep wanting to see a cop nearby also. I have a Bluetooth earpiece and it works great. It's set up so I can make most calls without touching the phone: I say traffic for traffic reports, say the names of people in my phone book -- and it dials. It's great and it's not expensive. It doesn't distract me any more than listening to the radio. I don't understand why most people won't go with hands free!
