Been listening to the Oscars with half an ear-- Amber has them on. Happy to hear that LotR is doing well so far. Wish Pirates had won something. Johnny Depp looks like an anime character, in a good way. :) What *is* that red thing on Ian McKellan's wrist? I thought at first they were mardi gras beads but now I don't think so. The Katharine Hepburn tribute made me sniffly. What an amazing woman. And I haven't seen Cold Mountain but the music is awesome. I love Alison Krauss.

Since you're just listening you probably missed the the general tribute to those who had passed over the past year. Very moving and it made me sad to think of all the talent lost...even if most of them were older. I have to admit I was a little ambivalent that they honored Leni Riefenstahl. She was the German actress turned director who gave the world Nazi propoganda films such as "Triumph of the Will." Plus I don't think she ever worked in this country to be a member of the Academy. Oh well, you know me...gotta get riled up about something. :-)

I think you're right. I'd be surprised if she had, anyway. That is a little iffy.

I noticed that the applause died to next to nothing when her name appeared. Probably because most of them had no clue who she was.

Did you hear the song from "A Mighty Wind?" I didn't know until the red carpet stuff earlier that the song was written by Ma Kent herself, Annette O'Toole, and her husband Michael McKean (aka Perry White).

Oh, I suspect a lot of them knew who she was, and disapproved.

I didn't hear the nomination, and I didn't know that. That's funny. I liked that film.

I did see the best original song presentation go to LotR and Annie Lennox wa just adorable. :D
