Thanks to John ([livejournal.com profile] theamusedone) I got to go see The Anonymous 4 in concert with Darol Anger and Scott Nygaard on Friday evening. He was coming into town from Utah to go see them, and he asked if I wanted to join him and his friends. The group is most famous for their medieval music, but this particular tour is all American roots stuff-- lots of gospel and folk ballads. Similar to some of the music on the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. I enjoyed it tremendously! Their harmonies are celestial, and the fiddle, mandolin and guitar work was wonderful. They did a combination of acapella and accompanied stuff, a couple of solos. Just gorgeous. One thing that was kind of odd, though, was that the audience was about 75% senior citizens. Very strange.

One funny thing happened at dinner. We'd finished up and were getting ready to leave, and we all, virtuallly simultaneously, pulled out our tubes of Burt's Bees lipbalm and applied it. Synchronized lip-balming! And we all had the identical kind! After the concert we tried to take John to the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse, but it was too late and they were closed, though they did kindly let us come in and look around, because the place is such a work of art.

I've spent a lot of the weekend trying to get the house cleaned up some, and have also somehow ended up doing a lot of shopping, both grocery and non. Found a few holiday gifts, and a few things for me, too. I got a couple of new tops and a new vest, and finally found a decent pair of snow boots! I have huge feet, and it's so hard to find shoes in my size around here, but just on a whim we went into Marshall's (a store I haven't be inside for at least two years) and they had a pair of London Fog boots in my size that were on clearance for only $25.
