I had to make a new icon in honor of this news. :D
I found out by reading
sithdragn's LJ tonight that Star Trek: TOS (or part of it) is going to be re-released in syndication beginning on Sept. 16th. She linked to the TV Guide article about it and also reproduced another good article (go see her entry to read it). They're apparently Lucas-izing it a bit, updating the visual effects, (and, for some unknown reason, re-recording the theme). I found a few other links by Googling.
The first one listed below actually has a short Quicktime videoclip showing the old model-built Enterprise and how the new CGI one might look (though the effects are actually being done by a different group).

Part of me is intrigued and part of me is appalled (even though editors tell you never to split a character up like that). I guess I'll have to reserve judgement. I hope the re-release will air on a station I get, so I can check it out.
