I've been incredibly lucky-- I have only had three people I knew personally affected by AIDS, but I know that can change at any time. I also know how incredibly lucky I was that when I was in my wild and crazy period, the worst thing you were likely to get was herpes. The first time I knew anyone who had AIDS was in 1992, a sweet, gentle young man named John who died within months of diagnosis. Fortunately today, things are better for those who can afford state-of-the-art care. Unfortunately, there are millions who cannot, and we still need to find a real cure, and a vaccine to prevent it. If you want an incredibly easy way to donate to the cause, go to: http://www.lighttounite.com/ Wait for flash animation to load. Click anywhere on map to light a candle. Each candle lit equals to a dollar being donated towards AIDS research. (gakked from

And while the timing on this news story is somewhat appropriate, I must say it's really embarrasing that South Africa's Constituional Court has now ruled that gay marriage must be legalized and yet the US is still in the dark ages about it. :-P
