Someone posted that they felt the SG:A writers were ripping off BSG with the idea of man-made creations developing consciousness, and someone else has accused them of ripping off Joss Whedon because there was a similar Buffy ep.

Come on folks, both of those are ideas that've been around in SciFi for aeons, you might as well accuse the BSG writers of ripping off Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" which was the source material for Blade Runner, or whoever wrote the "Bobby wakes up in the shower" episode of Dallas. Both ideas have been used hundreds of times.

There's no such thing as an original idea, just original execution.

I thought the ep was pretty good. It's not one of my favorites, but it stood on its feet pretty well, and I liked seeing Torri get to stretch a bit. She's not a bad actress, they just don't give her much to work with most of the time. On a purely shallow level, I also liked seeing her without the Maybelline slathered on an inch thick--she's one of those women who look better without a ton of makeup. I even liked her hair right at the end of the episode, which is, I think, the first time I've ever liked it.

As for 200... well, I have to admit to being a tad underwhelmed by it, though it ably illustrates the 'There's no such thing as an original idea, just original execution' rule. Granted, I am not really an SG-1 fan, so that probably bears on my feelings. I was vastly amused by the concept of it, I just thought the outcome didn't quite live up to the idea. The Firefly and Farscape references were very funny, but the Thunderbirds-style marionette sequence went on too long and with the exception of Daniel and Jack, didn't look much like the characters. However, I loved the shout-out to the slashers, and the Asimov quote by the pseudo-Teal'c at the end. (Yes, I know who that was)

ETA: I suspect if I'd had someone fannish to watch it with, I'd have liked it better. Fannish things are always exponentially better when watched in company with other fen.

I caught about 15 minutes of the pre-show special, and I thought it was actually funnier than the episode. I wish I'd seen the whole thing. I was LMAO at Chris Judge's estimation of how many times Teal'c has said "Indeed." I am now waiting for someone to post the actual total. You know someone will. ;)
