Eureka 8/26

Huh. So I was sorta right.

There was something up with Alison's necklace. Just not what I thought. Ah well. That was kind of heartwrenching. I'm so glad they're not glossing over what happened to Nathan, it's really nice to see some continuity. Thorne continues to be smarmily evil, but at least it's clear she has more of an agenda than it first appeared. That would have just been annoying, without being interesting. Speaking of being annoying and not interesting...

Does anyone else think Eureka's Degree product-placement crap sucks huge yellow radioactive rocks? What the hell made them think that would be a good idea? When it was just commercials I sort of found it vaguely amusing but then it actually turned up in the show and frankly it's turning me off completely, and I'm a loyal viewer who has loved and pimped the show since the first episode. Way to alienate your viewers, Skiffy! (Smallville did something similar with some kind of chewing gum last season and it was just as annoying, fortunately I quit watching SV regularly years back.)

It's going to be really hard to keep up with what I want to watch this fall. There's too many things on at the same times! I ended up making a spreadsheet showing what I'm hoping to watch. Since I don't have a DVR or Tivo, this is going to be tough.

If you're going to be all geeky and make up spreadsheets and stuff, you might as well be geeky all. the. way. and get yourself a TiVo already. :-)

I would, but I have this little problem with income versus outgo...

Huh. I saw the commercial for degree but I don't remember seeing it in the show. Maybe my brain isn't geared right for noticing product placement :)

They've done it several times-- the most egregious was in the first ep when Thorne shows up with a couple of pallets of Degree in the background and talked about Eureka's new partnership with Degree. Then their bodywash shows up in Carter's shower in the last ep. Then they started having the characters (like Zane, last night) in the commercials for it. It's horrible and even worse, seems to be a trend.

Ah, I do remember Zanes commercial and I guess now that I think about it, Carter did have some kind of bodywash that he kept finding empty. I just wasn't paying attention to WHICH brand it was :)

I think Zane was wearing a Degree t-shirt in an ep, too, now that I think about it. I think that first instance was so horrible and blatant that now I am supersensitive about it.

At least with Applebee's and Friday Night Lights there was some organic use of the sponsor -- the local Applebee's in Austin is one of the regular locations for shooting.

I didn't watch FNL so I didn't know they did it, too, but yeah, that sounds a bit more subtle.

Yeah, I quit watching Eureka last season, and I knew it was going to be -- interesting -- given the print ads I saw earlier this summer.

Also? Some of the networks (I know Fox is one) streams their shows on their websites. Makes it easier to catch up on stuff (and if you use Firefox with Adblocker, you can skip the commercial breaks.)

Yeah, I just never remember to go watch them!

Don't feel too bad about the spreadsheet, 'cause I can do you one better. I have a *workbook* with pages for the last five seasons.

I have no life. Really. Although it is fun to look back and see how my tastes have changed over time. There's some stuff I watched five years ago, I wouldn't watch now for love or money.

::hee::

As for Eureka - I find the commercials annoying, but not quite as annoying as the Free Credit Report jingles ::sporks ears:: but I just couldn't get into the show. I kept wanting to slap people for being so book-smart and real-world stupid. I watch the occasional 5-10 minutes here or there, but I'm not really into it anymore.

Oh lord, that FCR.com jingle is hideous! I'm so with you there.

And yeah, it's funny the stuff we 'loved' and when we try to watch it again, it... doesn't hold up. Desperation induces some odd viewing choices. ;D

I didn't understand why they were showing Degree so much until you mentioned it. I guess I didn't pay close attention in the first episode. The one that I really noticed was the uniform that Zane designed (I think). It had a panel on the back that you could use for advertising, and of course, it had the Degree logo. I just thought that would be a cool idea for clothing/uniforms. But without Degree!

It will be interesting to see what exactly Thorne is looking for. At first, I thought it was something nuclear/radioactive, but maybe that was just camouflage.
