The Diet Coke Incident

Last week when [livejournal.com profile] bluster was visiting, we had an amusing incident. Our younger cat, Sora (see picture below) is sweet as can be, but a huge klutz. He's always falling off things and knocking things over. He also has a box fetish. If there is a box anywhere in the house it is his box to play with and chew on and hide in and generally chase around the house unless it's bigger than he is, and even then he'll try.

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] bluster drinks diet Coke and she had brought one of those refrigerator packs of it, and since I didn't have room in the fridge it was sitting on the floor of the living room. There was only one can left, and Sora decided to play in the box. He chased it around and dove into it headfirst, and eventually got intrigued by the strange cylindrical object rolling around inside it. I noticed he was pawing at the can but didn't think anything about it until we suddenly hear this FWOOSHyowl!!!soundofsmallbuffalo(kitty)runningaway and the can is on the floor spraying diet Coke EVERYWHERE and the cat is two rooms away under the dining table with his tail puffed out to at least six inches in diameter, dripping diet Coke from every surface and licking his chops with the most disgusted look on his face. Upon looking closely at the can, we could see the very obvious claw-marks, and the single puncture-hole and about half an inch away, an almost puncture hole where he'd tried to pick it up in his mouth to get it out of the box. (I would supply a photo but the can is too shiny to get a good picture of.)

For the rest of the evening he eyed the Coke box mistrustfully, but being a cat of very little brain, the next day he'd forgotten all about it and was playing with the box again. This time, thankfully, empty. All I can say is thank goodness it was diet. If it had been the real kind it would have been a lot harder to get out of the carpet. :)

Oh, that just cracked me up. And wow, fantastic picture!

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! Glad to make you laugh. It just never occurred to me he could actually get his mouth around the can enough to BITE it!

And thanks. It's hard to get a good pic of him because he's light-sensitive and tends to close his eyes, but I snuck up on him and did that one flash-less. :)

Poor cat :(

You sure B. was feeling ok? After spending MW with her, I can tell it's not like her to let good Diet coke go to waste :)

[identity profile] bluster.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Trust me, if I would have thought the can of diet Coke was in danger I would have rescued it. The thought never crossed my mind that Sora could actually sink his teeth into the can. Such a determined boy he is.

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
She had another FULL pack waiting, so it wasn't too traumatic. ;D

[identity profile] bluster.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
His eyes are so blue in that picture. He looks vaguely pissed-off, don't you think? Was someone sitting in his chair? *g* I will never forget the diet Coke incident as long as I live. He was vastly amusing, although I know that wasn't his intention.

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
They are that blue in the right light. :)

He looks vaguely pissed-off, don't you think? Was someone sitting in his chair?

Hee! No, but I had just woken him up. :)

[identity profile] bluster.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Ah! That explains a great deal. It's okay for them to wake us up, but turn about is not fair play as far as they're concerned.

Heaven's no!

Hee, kitty antics are always amusing!

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
They truly are.

Just yesterday Sora was playing Tank. This involved pushing our older cat, Riku (who is much smaller), with his head while walking, forcing Riku to walk backwards. Goof.

So. So. Funny. :)

Kitties are always good for a smile. :)

The Culprit

looks very pleased with himself.

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you think so? I think he looks cranky, but then I know I woke him up to get that picture. ;D

[identity profile] rattlecatcher.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. And I thought my cat was a brain trust! ;)

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect having a brain the size of a walnut doesn't help. ;D

[identity profile] rattlecatcher.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Your cat has a brain that big?

Mine's only got half a walnut. Shelled.

[identity profile] silme.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that is a great: He killed a can of diet Coke! :)

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
He did!

I wonder if he broke its neck? He always does that. Even with treats. He shakes them to break their necks. :D

[identity profile] hoosier-red.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
He showed that can of diet Coke who was boss, by golly!

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
He sure did!

(I'm loving all the kitty icons!!)

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

[identity profile] grian-ruadh.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
This strikes me as something my own sweet-but-dim kitty, Rowan, would pull. Thanks for the giggle! :D

Glad to bring a smile. :)

::dies laughing:: I somehow missed this before....

I somehow missed this before....

I swear sometimes LJ hides posts. I'll be looking at someone's LJ and notice something that SHOULD have shown on my flist but didn't. It's annoying!

[identity profile] dragonelf-2002.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor little kitten. ::Falls over laughing::

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, a bath in diet Coke is not exactly on the Top Ten list of most kitties. :)

[identity profile] dragonelf-2002.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully he will have some more respect for those nefarious cans from now on.

[identity profile] imkalena.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That's one of the best cat stories I've heard. I can just see him all indignant and diet Coked!

We pick up the four kittens next weekend. :)

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It was so funny we nearly hurt ourselves laughing. :-D

And Eeeee! So excited. I hope your new little ones are as wonderful as they look! One thing about it, they'll keep each other (and you) entertained!

[identity profile] the-haunt.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
::dies lol:: I shouldn't be laughing – indignant kitties and soaked carpeting are no fun at all, but this story takes the cake. Glad your beautiful boy wasn't hurt by the evil can...what a cutie!

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, the evil can may have frightened him but he won in the end. It bled its lifeblood all over the floor. ;D It was surprisingly easy to clean up. In fact, it seems to have actually cleaned the carpet in the area where it hit. Weird.

I have saved the can as a trophy. I really need to try and get a picture of it. :)

It was definitely amusing. :)
