SGA: second-half-of the season impressions

Stargate: Atlantis second-half-of the season impressions

I've been really liking the Atlantis eps from the second half of the season (which I am totally not illegally downloading). The Return, Part 2 worked well, and had some surprises. I was completely shocked when they destroyed the Gaterium (though, how did they keep from knocking the actual stargate off its base?) and then was pleased that they actually thought it through and dealt with a way to get it back to status quo without it being unbelievable. I didn't particularly care for the 'rewind' bit (I suspect the SGA writers have been watching ReGenesis because it really reminded me of their usual 'shift POV' technique.) but it did work, and I thought their solution was quite nifty.

Echoes was everything I've ever wanted in a Stargate episode. Team bonding, slashy bits, great storyline, excellent pacing and a good balance of humor and tension. Bravo. One of my favorite episodes of the entire run of the series to date. Brilliant.

In fact, the entire season to this point (with one exception) has been good, so much better than last year it's not even funny. I was about ready to stop watching it after last season but they've pretty much redeemed themselves. I started looking forward to the next new ep! And when it finally shows up, I get... Irresponsible.

That'll teach me not get my expectations up too high.

I was extremely unhappy with Irresponsible. I didn't like Irresistible at all so seeing Lucius Loving redux was less than thrilling (though I will say I liked him marginally better in this ep than the last one). But what I really hated was the anticlimactic way they got rid of one of the most interesting and powerful bad guys they've ever had. Kolya's death was just a joke, an excuse for an Old West style shootout visual. In fact, Kolya himself seemed mostly a joke in this episode and not scary any more. Very, very disappointing.

I didn't pay attention to who wrote it, but whoever it was has either not watched the show, or has amnesia. Gah.

Rodney and the Whale sounds like a great title for a children's book. ;D

You have -GOT- to go write that.

Right now.
