kelliem: blue stairs (possibilities)
( Aug. 21st, 2008 08:48 am)
So right after seeing this week's Eureka and finding out some information that makes me think a certain event that happened during the ep might be more permanent than I had presumed, I find out that they're cancelling Stargate: Atlantis.

Not. Happy. Right. Now. :(

For those of you who are Joe Flanigan fans, he's apparently on head-to-head with himself tomorrow night (Friday, January 4th). He'll be in the new Stargate Atlantis ep on SciFi, opposite a guest role as an FBI dude on a new (and last new one for a while due to the writer's strike) ep of Women's Murder Club on ABC. Why do I find that oddly amusing? (Could possibly be in part because I still think he looks like the bastard love-child of David Duchovny and Kyan Douglas.)

And speaking of SGA folks, in other TV news, Paul McGillion will be in SciFi Channel's latest bad movie of the week on Saturday night. "Beyond Loch Ness." Looks like an instant classic. For MST3K anyway. ;D (I actually kind of get a kick out of these awful things-- they don't take themselves seriously. And SFC's current batch of commercials for 'the most dangerous night on television' are a hoot!)

I suspect this may amuse at most 5 people on the planet. [livejournal.com profile] bluster and I have been saying that Paul McGillion's fondness for pointy hair reminds us of our youth...

Every time I think they have exhausted their ability to think up homages to Star Trek, the folks at Stargate: Atlantis find a new way. Check it out:

Edited to add: Now with SG-1 Costume Spoilers too! (from the 200th Ep. Preview)

No spoilers. Unless maybe some people really do think there's such a thing as 'mood spoilers.' Which is as silly as the idea of a Blair Sandburg's Hair Warning.

Anyway, I liked it a lot. :)

PS: Can't vouch that there won't be spoilers in the comments.

I'll stick the Stargate Atlantis stuff below a cut tag at the bottom.

First the Psycho Kitty question: Do any of you happen to know of anything that will make a cat less territorial? Lately there's been something... we don't know if it's a cat or a coon-- occasionally out on the roof outside my window at night, and if Riku realizes it is out there he just goes ballistic. He's like a wildcat. He tore the window screen open again last night trying to get at whatever it was (along with my arm and my ankle-- I had to get him away from the window before he went out after it, and he was still in full fight mode at the time. He didn't mean to rip me up.)

I'm afraid one of these days he will get out, and he is so small (only weighs about 6 pounds) I think a coon would have the best of him just from sheer size. (Though maybe not for ferocity. Not to mention he's loud. I heard one of the neighbors who happened to be outside at the time say "What the HELL was that?" when he heard Riku screaming. I keep thinking about that cat who treed a bear and thinking he and Riku must be related. :) It's so weird because he's SUCH a 'fraidy cat in other ways. He gets freaked out by bumps in the carpet for God's sake! Or strangers. We call him our Wussy Pussy most of the time. But he sees that whatever it is out there and it's like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He even freaks out our younger and much larger cat, Sora, when he gets like that. Sora just runs and hides until Riku has calmed down.

Second: anyone know where I can find some good ReGenesis screencaps?

Third, last night's Stargate: Atlantis. spoilers behind the cut )

One non-spoilery comment:

That was way better than I was expecting.

Okay, now spoilers behind the cut, so DO NOT CLICK IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW!! And if you do click, do not come whining to me about being spoiled. Your last chance. Don't click unless you're absolutely sure! )

I've never done this before, and now I think I know why. It points out just how weird my musical tastes are compared to most of my peers. Well, here you go, now you all can see it too. :) From my hard-drive:

1. Moonlight Becomes You / Glen Miller & His Orchestra / (Stairway to the Stars)
2. Sometimes / Daniel Lanois / (Shine)
3. Vive la Rose / Emile Benoit / (Music of Canada)
4. Ed’s Wake / Zubot & Dawson / (Music of Canada)
5. How Long Has This Been Going On / Carly Simon / (Moonlight Serenade)
6. Skinwalker’s Moon / Robert Mirabal / (Spirit)
7. Fast As I Can / Great Big Sea / (Up)
8. Begin the Beguine / The Frank & Joe Show / (33-1/3)
9. Mario Takes a Walk / Jesse Cook / (Gravity)
10. Walkin’ My Baby Back Home / Nat King Cole / (Best of Nat King Cole)

That Johari meme that's going around looks interesting but the site's overloaded so that will have to wait.

In other news, I was reading an article about the Opening Ceremonies for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, and ran across this description of one segment: Rollerbladers in red body stockings who hurtled down ramps onto a white stage, the backs of their heads shooting two-foot bursts of fire. I read that and immediately flashed on that SGA/Xanadu vid that was making the rounds recently. Ah, roller-disco never really dies, does it? ;-D

Yeah, I'm impatient and I couldn't wait. I haven't read many comments on the ep because I didn't want to be spoiled before I watched it, but now I have. Very superficial comments behind the cut... )

I don't think anyone else I know is watching Surface, but I gotta say, they'd better not make Nim hurt Miles! ::whimper::

On the SGA front, I am hoping someone puts The Hive up for d/l sometime soon. As usual, I am jealous of Canadians.

Finally, a fandom survey gakked from [livejournal.com profile] aukestrel. This is sort of interesting. I wonder if the results are being tabulated somewhere? survey behind the cut )

I got my Stargate: Atlantis Season 1 DVDs in the mail today! Yay! They are nicely packaged, single-sided DVDs and they have extras! Lots of them from the looks of things. Actor, writer, director, stunt coordinator -- you name it commentaries, and Mission Directives, and photo galleries, Rainbow's diary, something about Wraith Discrimination... LOTS of goodies!

This is going to be fun. :)

I noticed just now as I was looking at [livejournal.com profile] bluster's Conversion caps that ... wait. Just on the off chance that this might be a spoiler to someone and they might have a hissy fit, I'm going to LJ cut the rest of this. Read more... )

For those of you NOT already hooked on Stargate: Atlantis, Fox (at least in the Denver metro area) seems to be showing them starting with first season at 3pm on Saturday. I just caught the last half of the first half of The Rising (the pilot ep), and they'll show the second half next week. There are more pretty men of all different types on this show than you can shake a proverbial stick at, and the slash factor is astronomical.

Well, that was a fairly enjoyable two hours. Like [livejournal.com profile] bluster, I seem to have become immune to Stargate plot holes, since none really leaped out at me. I'm sure if someone points them out to me now, I'll be all like Rodney when Sheppard took him off to explain The Plan. :)

Computers. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

Just spent the better part of 2 days trying to get my new wireless network card working. Still have not succeeded-- finally gave up and am using a hard connection for now. For the past 9 months I've been using a borrowed card and the lendee wanted it back so I went out and got a new one, and we cannot get the damned thing working for anything. *sigh* I know someone at work who is a bit of a guru, so I will ask him if he has any suggestions tomorrow.

On to other things.

Watched SGA: Trinity. Loved it. Everyone was good this ep, ALL of my woobies. And I am seriously developing an OT3 in this fandom. Sheppard/McKay/Zelenka. Mmmm. Must make icon. (ETA: Icon made, thanks to help from [livejournal.com profile] khamryn)

The first time I saw the below meme, it was for the year you were born not the year you graduated. And I was sad because I couldn't play, because there is no Top 100 for the year I was born. I am Too Old. But I can play this version! Yay!

Go to musicoutfitters.com, and do a search on the most popular 100 songs from the year you graduated high school. (You can do this by searching on the year you graduated). Bold the ones you actually like. (Understand that the word "like" in this case means, in the very least, "wouldn't immediately change the radio station from.") Pick a favorite. Underline that favorite. And strike through the ones you loathe. My list: )

What's odd is that I can't actually remember a lot of these songs. I dunno if that's a function of my age (aka losing it!), how forgettable the songs were, or of the radio station I tended to listen to at the time.
